Well, my first week back at work has gone by very quickly. For the most part it has been pretty good. Monday was a national holiday, Tuesday was just opening ceremony (which I managed to miss, despite the fact that I was at school all day), Wednesday I was in the BOE doing nothing along with several other ALTs, Thursday I was at my good school and kept busy all day, and today I had a really fun elementary visit. On Wednesday I also got to see my closest Kochi friends again when we all met up to get dinner together. I was really happy to see them and to hear about their winter holidays.
Today was an especially good day because the kids were small, cute, and very happy. They're only second graders, so they don't know much English but they're very interested in new people. We were working on colors, which they already knew pretty well, so the games went smoothly. I was especially proud of myself for making a fishing game that the students enjoyed a lot. It involved a magnet taped to a string, and paper fishes with paper clips on them so the magnet could pick them up. Pretty simple, but it held their attention really well.
Yesterday I found out that there will be an enkai tonight for my good school. I'm quite excited for it. The enkai are always fun because people are more comfortable talking to me after they've had a few beers, and I'm less self-conscious about my Japanese once I've had a few drinks. I'm hoping the nijikai (after-party) will be karaoke because I've been learning some songs to sing in Japanese. I'm also looking forward to talking with the math teacher; he seemed really interested in whether I was coming or not, so I'm guessing he'd like to talk to me too. Or possibly just watch me make a fool of myself in front of the other teachers; that's always a possibility. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to partying this evening.
That's all for now. I didn't have any major news to share, but thought I'd update you on what I've been doing since I got back to Kochi.
