Tatsuya's Birthday

This past weekend, I had two events coming up: Sports Day at my larger school on Sunday, and Tatsuya's 27th birthday on Tuesday. Normally I wouldn't count Tuesday as part of the weekend, but Monday was a national holiday (Respect for the Aged Day) and I had Tuesday off as compensation for going to Sports Day on Sunday. So essentially, my weekend was Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.

Initially, it looked like Tatsuya and I would get to celebrate on his actual birthday. We both should've had Tuesday off. But because of iffy weather over the weekend, two or three schools decided to postpone their Sports Day, and his was one of them. So, my school went ahead with Sports Day on Sunday, and I had Tuesday off. But Tatsuya's Sports Day got moved to Tuesday, so we celebrated his birthday on Monday instead.

About 1:00 on Monday, we went to an Indian restaurant for lunch. I didn't know that he liked Indian curry, so that came as a surprise. As a birthday present, I gave him a belt I had seen at the mall a long time ago. The pattern and fabric remind me of a necktie, because it's a bit silky and has diagonal stripes in a few shades of blue. The first time I saw it at the store I thought it was quite sharp, but didn't really stop to check it out since it was a men's belt. But not too long after we started dating I decided it would make a nice present, so I went back and bought it on the off chance that we'd still be dating when his birthday came around. Anyhow, it seemed like he really likes it. He put it on right away, and a few times during the afternoon I noticed him looking at it, or fidgeting with it.

We stayed at the restaurant and talked for a while, partly because the rain started coming down violently and we'd left the umbrella in the car. When the weather cleared up a little, we went to a supermarket to find some things he would need for Sports Day. Not his school's Sports Day, though; he's also going to the one at our old school. On the way he told me that he likes shopping, and he has a pretty good eye for prices since he worked part time at a grocery store for several years. After wandering around the store for a bit, he bought some juice to bring for the students.

At this point, we still had some time left, so we drove down to the sea. Because of the recent storms, the waves were enormous. We stopped at a turnout to take in the view. Sometimes when the receding waves would meet the incoming ones, it was like the water was exploding. It was amazing, but also a little frightening, even from behind the sea wall. Since it was still raining on and off, we mostly watched from the parked car. Tatsuya was really tired, so he took a short nap while I stared out the window at the waves. Eventually I leaned my seat back and took a nap, too. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon.

Around five o'clock, it was time to go home. Tatsuya's family was taking him out for a birthday dinner that night. He dropped me off back at my place, and I spent the rest of the evening playing a video game I'd bought just  recently (more on that later).

Yesterday I had off from work; I didn't do a whole lot, although I did finally take my glasses in to have one of the nose pads put back on. Mostly I cleaned a few things and lazed around. I sent a "Happy Birthday" message to Tatsuya's phone, but I knew we wouldn't be seeing each other that day. Anyhow, it was a pretty good weekend.
