Most of the costumes were hand made, although mine was a combination of items bought from thrift stores. Since everyone worked pretty hard on their outfits, it was a little painful for some of them to shred them up and stain them with fake blood for the final zombie look. But destroying the costumes was pretty fun once we got started on it. We also did extensive zombie makeup, including liquid latex wounds and stage blood. A few girls even wore colored contacts to make their eyes extra creepy.
Before the party, there was a pre-party gathering of ALTs at a park near the castle. We almost didn't go because of heavy rain, but once the rain let up a little we made our way there. It was fun to hang out at the park for a while because it's quieter than Hirome, so we could actually talk with people a bit. But a lot of the group was made up of people I didn't know particularly well, so sometimes I found myself standing around a bit awkwardly.
Since the party didn't get started until 11:00 pm, we went to Obiyamachi and tried to do purikura, but there was a very long line, so we gave up on it after waiting a while. While we were there a lot of people asked to take pictures of us. Although we couldn't do purikura, we did have some fun while hanging around; one guy was being a little obnoxious to us, so we all started shambling toward him in zombie fashion, and I think we managed to genuinely scare him a little. Although maybe being surrounded by foreign women would've been terrifying enough even without the zombie makeup. But it was pretty satisfying all the same.
At Hirome, we drank and danced and had many more pictures taken. I got to see Masa again for the first time in a long while, and so I hung out and danced with him and his friends for a bit. Masa was dressed as Shufflebot, the robot from the band LMFAO. They're the ones who do the songs "Party Rock Anthem" and "I'm Sexy and I Know It". It was a good choice of costume for him, because he was dancing up a storm most of the night. He's a pretty good dancer, actually.
Part of the Halloween party at Hirome is the costume contest. I'm not sure exactly who judges it, but they do give out small prizes for individual and group costumes. We had been hoping to win something or other, but the prize for group costume went to a zombie nurse group. I wasn't that disappointed, but I think it irked some of the others a fair deal. We had definitely put more work (and thought) into our costumes, since each of us had a different outfit and a different story. The zombie nurses had just bought sexy nurse costumes and put blood on them. Although, to be fair, some of them did have some impressive fake wounds.
As the party was winding down, we all decided to head home instead of going to an after party event. Most of us were quite tired, and although I wasn't exhausted or drunk, I did have a headache from my heavy wig. Julie and I went back to my place, and most of the others stayed at Natasha's. All in all, it was a pretty successful night.
Here are two pictures of our costumes. I'm going to put them after a jump break, so if you don't want to look at them, you don't have to. Warning: they are pretty grotesque.
Here's my costume, before we applied any fake blood. You can also see that the liquid latex isn't finished yet; those are the white patches on my leg and chest. They still needed to be covered in foundation and colored in with the bruise palette.
The next one is a group shot taken at the park. We're missing Mulan and Meg, but this is most of the group.

Back row, left to right: Pocahontas (Laura), Tamina (Jessica), Rapunzel (me)

I think your costumes were very creative and yes grotesque. The boys went to the usualy places and had fun. I am tired and need a drink. Oh well now on to Thanksgiving and Finals! We love you and miss you tons! Christina and the Gang
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you guys look flipping awesome. I'm SO GLAD to hear you put the fear of god and zombie royalty into an obnoxious Japanese punk. Foreign women will stop at nothing, you know! I miss you a ton my dear!
