This past Tuesday, I got an email from someone I met at the Osaka Lindy Exchange. She lives in Kyoto, and she invited me to come visit her this weekend. I hadn't thought about it, but it's a great time to go because the leaves are changing, and Kyoto is very famous for its fall colors. For a while I felt like being lazy and just spending the weekend at home; taking the overnight bus just to be in Kyoto for one day and night isn't super appealing. But it was too good of an opportunity to miss, and it pretty much fell right into my lap. I didn't even have to come up with the idea on my own. All I have to do is take the bus to Osaka and a train or two to Kyoto.
So, tonight I'm catching the 10:30 train to Osaka. Like last time, I'll be arriving in Osaka Saturday morning (blech). Stephanie (the person I'm going to stay with) has explained which trains I need to take to get to Kyoto, and she's going to meet me at the station closest to her place. I'm a little nervous since I haven't had much time to prepare (I bought my bus tickets just yesterday evening), but this time I'll have someone helping me. I've spent this afternoon printing off information about trains and things to see, but I'm still a little freaked out.
The plan: Saturday in Kyoto, spend the night at Stephanie's, and return to Osaka in the late morning to catch an afternoon bus back to Kochi. Hopefully all goes well. Like last time, my biggest fear is getting stranded somewhere and not making it back to Kochi in time for work on Monday. But I'm going to play it as safe as possible, so the odds of that should be fairly low. Wish me luck!
