Pizza!

This marks the first time I have ordered pizza since coming to Japan. It was only a matter of time, really. Tonight I had very little food in my refrigerator and was not feeling particularly motivated to ride to the store. It rained most of the day, and might rain again. I also needed something to take to work tomorrow for lunch, and didn't have many options beyond rice or noodles. So I decided to get pizza.

There is a pizza chain in Kochi called Pizza Royalhat. Given that their logo is a crown, I think what they were aiming for is "Crown Pizza", but "Royalhat" is just so much more descriptive. Anyhow, I had been told by the other ALTs that their pizza is quite good, and there's one not far from the apartment. So tonight I wandered in to look at the menu. Their menu has lots of pictures, which is incredibly helpful. After a few minutes, I decided on a "Fresh Mozzarella Margherita" pizza. I wasn't particularly interested in trying pizza with corn on it tonight, so I stuck to the basics. Ordering wasn't too difficult, and the employee spoke slowly when asking me questions, so I mostly understood what he said. I only had to wait about 10 minutes for my pizza, and I also received 3 cans of Pepsi with it.

I walked back home, singing to myself as I went. As soon as I got home, I opened up the box and dug in. It was basically a cheese pizza with extra tomato and basil paste. I ate five slices in total, and it was very good, if rather greasy. Now my apartment smells like pizza. Which is kind of nice, actually.

  1. Good for you to have some pizza. In Soeul, we were treated to pizza with tabasco on it... in Paris, we were served pizza with raw eggs on top... and now... basil paste... learn something new every day. Wish I could cook some for ya my young friend. Doug
