Exciting Purchases

So, recently I bought two pretty awesome things. One of them is a used kimono, which was actually quite cheap. A new kimono would be extremely expensive, but used ones can be very affordable. I got this kimono and an obi (the sash you wrap around your waist) for 6500 yen. I wasn't originally planning to buy a kimono since I likely won't have an excuse to wear one (and since I don't even really know how to put one on), but this one caught my eye. Friends have suggested that even if I never wear it, I could hang it as a decoration. It photographed a bit red but it's actually orange with white and yellow flowers.

The other thing I bought was a bit more of an investment. It's a dress by Angelic Pretty, a Japanese brand specializing in lolita fashion. Though it's intended for adult women, most lolita clothing is very, very small, so I was pretty excited to find a cute dress that I could actually fit into. I especially liked the pattern: houses and castles built out of sweets. In addition to the dress, I bought a petticoat (for extra fluffiness) and a matching headband. It's too embarrassing to tell you what it all cost, but let's just say it's the kind of money I never would've spent on clothing in America. But when it comes down to it, this is something I really can't get outside of Japan, and it's very special to me.

So, please excuse the materialistic nature of this post, but I was very excited about my new things and wanted to share. Though they're two extremely different types of clothing, both are very uniquely Japanese.

  2. Andrea they are very cute! Next time you are home we can look at fabric. The house dress fabric looks like a brand known here as Daisy Kingdom and my Mom, you , and me could make some more for you. You are so beautiful! We miss you so much and the boys keep talking about you. They want to come visit you. I explained to Alexander that you are waking up when we are going to sleep. He has asked every morning this week if you are going to sleep. I tell him yes. He thinks that is so neat. Have a wonderful trip with your Mom. We will send a hug from everyone in our family. Love you and miss you tons. Christina
