July being the time when most of the ALTs' contracts start and end, we are currently in the season of goodbyes. This year a lot of people I know well are leaving. Two weeks ago Laura left; earlier this week Lindsay and Julie left; and today Matt and Ben, two ALTs from my office, left for home. And there are still more farewells to come. Still, it's probably going to be a while before it really sinks in that these people are not coming back.
The more positive side of it is that soon we'll be getting a group of new ALTs to fill their places. The city Board of Education (my office) will get four guys from America. I'm looking forward to them coming, and hoping I can help them out with settling in and getting to know Kochi. The first few weeks everyone's a little loopy as they're trying to get their bearings, so you kind of have to withhold judgment for a while. But I'm looking forward to meeting new people.
In even better news, it won't be that much longer until I get to come home for vacation! I'm really looking forward to it. I'm finding that as it gets closer, the waiting gets more difficult. Hopefully the new ALTs will be a good distraction in the two weeks before I leave.
