Tech Rehearsals

This past weekend, we had technical rehearsals for the Genki musical. In other words, we ran through the whole musical using all of our props and costumes. We hadn't used nearly any of the props before, let alone the sets, so it was pretty rough going on the first day. However, by the end of the weekend, I felt like we are more or less ready for the stage.

A camera crew from NHK (a major Japanese broadcasting network) came to film us on Saturday, and they stuck with us for the entire day. They filmed us practicing various things and recorded interviews with a few of the lead actors and the directors. They were a pretty nice group. The segment they're making won't be aired until next week, I think, but hopefully it'll help with publicity. This year we got a very late start because there was some sort of issue with getting the posters printed.

This coming weekend will be our first weekend on tour. We'll be doing shows in Muroto, Aki, Konan and Tosa City. Muroto is at the eastern tip of Kochi Prefecture, so it'll be quite a drive. We also have the kids' show in Kochi City, which is a shortened version of the musical for smaller children. We don't actually know yet what we'll be cutting out and what we'll be leaving in, so it should be interesting. Anyhow, it's going to be a very hectic weekend, but I'm looking forward to it. I feel like we've been working on the musical forever, but it also feels like it has just barely started coming together. Well, we get better with each show, so by the time we return to Kochi City for the finale it should be looking pretty awesome. Wish us luck!
