Yesterday night's dinner date was fantastic. Although Tatsuya got off work about an hour later than I'd expected, we had a good chunk of time to eat, talk and hang out. He liked the pasta even though the sauce came straight from a packet, and he seemed quite excited that there was garlic bread as well. I had a nostalgic moment earlier in the day when I bought the bread; it made me think of Albertson's, and how they sell those giant loaves of French bread and garlic bread. The loaf I bought yesterday was puny compared to the bread at Albertson's, but it was an appropriate size for two people to share.
After dinner I showed Tatsuya the mini photo album that I brought with me when I came to Japan. It was made for me in high school by my best friends, and since then I've added some family photos to it as well. I think he enjoyed it; he was really surprised by some of the pictures, like the one of the fox trotting up the street in front of our house. He also seemed surprised that I had so many pictures of my family. He told me that his family has pictures of him and his siblings when they were very little, but not much of anything past elementary school age. And now when he takes photos he usually just keeps them on the computer rather than printing them off and putting them in an album. It was interesting to get his perspective. To me, photo albums are pretty commonplace, but for him it was something fairly unusual.
I was very happy that I got a few hours with Tatsuya. He's very good company. Even though he must've been tired after working all day, he was cheerful and talkative. And it was satisfying to think that I had done something nice for him, since he usually has to reheat his dinner and eat all alone. I'm planning on making dinner for him again some time, but I don't know when it'll be. Hopefully soon.
WAY TO GO ANDREA!
