While I was at TJHS today, my JTE (Japanese Teacher of English) approached me about the posters for the culture festival. It turns out that she also felt that the "Nice monkey" illustration wasn't appropriate, and she suggested covering it with something else. I was happy that she came to that decision without me having to make a big deal of it. So, monkey-Obama will be covered up with an American flag I printed off the internet. I feel very relieved that he won't be on display.
In other news, I've come down with a cold. I've had a sore throat and runny nose since yesterday morning, and this afternoon I've been feeling kind of nauseous. I'm not looking forward to my elementary school visit tomorrow. Fortunately, I'll be dealing with fifth and sixth graders, so they should be somewhat less crazy than the younger kids.
I also feel like I'm falling behind in my lesson planning. We don't receive our instructions until a few days before the lesson, but even after getting the information sheets, I've been putting off working on them. Elementary visits can be fun because the students tend to be more enthusiastic than the junior high schoolers, but the visits are also more work. It can also be stressful trying to figure out how to get to the schools.
Don't forget you have sick leave! You can use it and keep the little kids, and teachers, healthy too. You don't want the school children to have a vision of an extra-pale American woman puking on their shoes, do you? lol
ReplyDeleteSorry you're not feeling well sweetie. Love you! Mom
