Off to Osaka!

I'm headed out tonight on the 10:30 bus to Osaka! I won't arrive until about 6 am tomorrow, but I'm hoping I can get a little sleep since Saturday there will be workshops during the day and dancing in the evening. In any case, this will be my first experience with an overnight bus, so it should be interesting.

I'm a little nervous about traveling on my own in Japan. I don't feel that I'll be in any danger, but I'm worried because I have only myself to rely on. If I get lost, I have to figure it out myself. Right now my biggest concern is missing the bus there or the bus back. Missing the bus back would be worse since I have to be at work the next day. Still, I'm excited to be going on a trip, and I'm looking forward to getting some dancing in.

My backup plan: if the dancing turns out to be less fun than I remembered, I want to visit the zoo or aquarium and do some shopping. There are huge bookstores in Osaka with books in English! I wouldn't mind picking up a few. A note about Japanese banks: you can't withdraw money from another bank's ATM. It isn't a matter of having to pay a fee; you just can't do it. Since my bank doesn't have ATMs outside of Shikoku (to my knowledge, at least), I have to take all the money I need with me. It feels weird to be carrying around a lot of cash, but that's just how things are done in Japan. Once again, Japan is a very safe place, so I'm not worried about my safety so long as I don't do anything I wouldn't do while traveling in America.

Anyhow, wish me luck! I should be back Monday evening, and will probably have plenty to talk about. Have a good weekend!
